Although tracks are routinely maintained and open, there are times when unexpected natural events cause impact. As such, we give the following advice when applicable.
Recent high wind and snowfalls have caused a large number of trees of varying sizes to fall along Goombala Road and the Mt. Tassie Loop. Whilst these tracks may be accessible to walk, extreme caution must be taken with the possibility of unstable trees still standing. It would be best to avoid these areas whilst clearing work is underway.
Please let us know if any other track sections are difficult to access.
PLANNED FORESTRY OPERATIONS
At times, sections of the Track may be affected by planned forestry operations on shared land, and may be closed in the immediate area. Detours may be organised and signposted. Walkers should obey traffic control and other forestry operations signage when present. Unless otherwise directed, never approach closer than two tree lengths to any machinery involved in forestry operations. As such, we give the following advice when applicable.
LIGHTING A CAMPFIRE IS PROHIBITED
The forest is extremely dry as we head into the warmer time of year, and people who don’t follow the track protocols in particular to lighting campfires, are putting lives and property at serious risk. We do however, permit portable gas stoves for cooking and heating.
It has been very disappointing to find people have been lighting campfires at various rest areas. If this behaviour continues we will have no alternative but to close off those affected rest areas indefinitely.
Persons sighted or caught lighting a campfire will be reported and may face arson offences.
The digital Planning Map is available here on the website or as a print out at the Tarra Bulga National Park Visitor Centre. It is a great starting point for understanding the various tracks, distances and camping areas. If you want more topographical and accurate detail about the terrain, grade of difficulty, distance markers, facilities, choose to purchase the Avenza App map and/or the Planning and Topographical Map Set.
